WDSU- Channel 6 Broadcast Facility
The new WDSU-Channel 6 Broadcast Facility is strategically located on the fringe of the New Orleans Central Business District. The site totals 88,000 square feet. The total floor area of the two-story building is 46,573 square feet, with a footprint of 30,650 square feet, allowing for a main front entrance, a side entrance for news personnel, a rear truck entrance housing the special TV truck equipment, plus personnel parking through a security gate.
The first floor contains offices, technical functions, and news operations tucked conveniently into the heart of the facility. Two studios are located at the extreme rear of the building. The second floor houses the executive and the administrative offices, lunch room, and community meeting room. The main entry area is a New Orleans style interior courtyard complete with iron fencing, planters, and a main glass and window wall entry. A microwave tower, limited to the enforced maximum height of 125 feet by the city code, is incorporated in the footprint of the building.
The news operation is housed in a clerestory space that management and visitors can view from a second floor advantage. The building is raised above the street level as a protection from potential flooding, and all points of access are equipped with electronic security, including camera monitors and passive card readers.
