Stuart Hall School

Woodward Design+Build constructed a two-phase Education Building and Gymnasium expansion to the campus of Stuart Hall School for Boys, located at 2032 South Carrollton Avenue. The Education Building, phase one of the project, started in October 2003 and was completed for the opening of the 2004 school year. Phase two of the project, which started in August 2004, was completed in September 2005, consisting of the removal of two existing homes and the construction of a new Gymnasium and Fellowship Hall.

The Education Building is a two-story 11,250 square foot building with eight classrooms, two handicap restrooms, a break room, conference room and an elevator. The building, estimated at $1,250,000, is a steel structure with piling, concrete foundation and slabs, metal stud framing and a prefabricated metal stud truss system for the roof. The exterior is Hardi-plank siding with a metal roof formed into a Spanish tile look in order to make the building resemble the homes in the area. The interior has painted drywall, plastic laminate cabinets and tops, hollow metal frames, wood doors, vinyl tile flooring and rubber base throughout.

The Gymnasium and Fellowship Hall is a two-story, 21,250 square foot building. The first floor includes the Fellowship Hall, three meeting rooms, locker room, restrooms, offices, and a kitchen area. The Gymnasium and all of the HVAC equipment is located on the second floor. This phase, budgeted at $2,985,000, also has structural steel framing, including the roofing, concrete foundation on piling, and exterior metal stud framing. The exterior is a stucco finish with a glass wall front entry and metal roofing shaped like Spanish tile.
