Staybridge Suites New Orleans
Rising from 13 feet below and going 192 feet above street level on Poydras and Tchoupitoulas Streets is the 17-story Staybridge Suites Hotel, an extended stay all-suites concept. Woodward Design+Build and Larry Case teamed up with Poydras Lodging Investors Limited Partnership to build this one of a kind hotel for Staybridge, a Holiday Inn product.
The building is a concrete frame, cladded with brick and EIFS. The Historic District Landmarks Commission (HDLC) approved the exterior facade. In each guest room, a full kitchen is provided with a two burner cook top, dishwasher, microwave, vent hood, and a full size refrigerator. The suite types consist of studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. The first floor includes a lobby, a great room with a bar, entertainment dining area, business center, board rooms, patio, and a pool.
A tight site and a tight time schedule required Woodward Design+Build and its subcontractors to use innovative methods and procedures to manipulate materials and workers on the site. The building occupies nearly all of the 12,000 square feet of the property. No delivery was greater than one floor of materials for any of the work trades, due to lack of space. During each week of construction, deliveries for reinforcing, post tension cable, metal studs, sheetrock, pipe, conduit, wire, etc., arrived with little or no place to be stored, which was a real challenge.
With 182 suites, two meeting rooms, an oversized lobby concept, and swimming pool, much was accomplished and it was completed on schedule.
