Poydras Home
The relationship between Woodward Design+Build and Poydras Home dates back to 1993. Poydras Home for Elderly Ladies began developing a plan to increase the diversity of their services provided to 60 plus residents. The historic nursing home, built in 1852, had the desire to bring their facility up to date with a new “state-of-the-art” nursing home facility. In addition, shifts in demographics requiring widening their spectrum of care to include assisted living and Alzheimer’s care. Woodward Design+Build assisted Poydras Home over a number of years, starting with the renovation of the historic building and an addition to two resident wings. A new physical plant was built, which included a 110 ton chiller to allow the removal of 75 air-conditioning units.
Poydras Home again looked to Woodward in 1998 to partner with in providing an independant living facility seperate from the existing buildings, and an addition for the Alzheimer’s Care Unit. Each of these new facilities required the special knowledge of nursing home care and construction. The facilities were completed in the Summer of 2001
