The Amato Family called upon Woodward Design+Build to perform a major renovation and expansion of Mother’s Restaurant, without closing the existing restaurant or kitchen which remains open 7 days a week.
The famous restaurant, a Poydras Street landmark for 63 years, underwent renovation of the existing space and expansion into the two adjacent buildings on Tchoupitoulas Street. This expansion added a 68-seat dining room and a 117-seat banquet room with a beautiful mahogany bar, constructed by Woodward Millwork Group. With the addition of the two adjacent buildings, the entire mechanical system was replaced as well as most of the plumbing and electrical systems. Woodward also renovated and expanded the existing kitchen in its original location, and constructed a new restroom facility to allow Mother’s to maintain quality and comfort as it serves substantially more patrons.
Working around a fully-operational restaurant posed many challenges for our team, which was overcome through constant coordination with the architects and Amato Family.
