Metairie Park Country Day School
Metairie Park Country Day School and Woodward Design+Build have a long standing relationship which has resulted in the construction of various new projects around the campus over the past few years. Country Day School hired Woodward Design+Build to build a new football field, which included grubbing excavation of the existing field, installation of new 9 inch sand subbase, drainage and athletic side, as well as a new sprinkler system. This project, which was 21,900 square feet and cost $80,000, was completed in August, 2000.
Woodward Design+Build was also involved in a continuing campaign to expand and modernize Country Day’s Old Metairie campus. A major part of this campus upgrade was the addition of a 26,000 square foot Metairie Park Country Day Middle School. Woodward Design+Build was selected to participate in extensive pre-construction activities with the Owner and the Architect to provide budgeting, scheduling, constructability and code review for this project. All work activities were scheduled around an active school population. Much attention was given to maintaining the look and feel of Country Day’s campus. Extensive brick and woodwork using native building materials blend this new building in with the old. This 26,100 square foot, $3,865,465 project was completed in December, 2002.
Additionally, Metairie Park Country Day School selected Woodward Design+Build as their contractor for additional extensive renovations to their Old Metairie campus. The first of these renovations included the expansion of their existing gymnasium and the addition of locker room facilities, classrooms, administrative offices, dance and recital areas, and extensive mechanical and electrical system upgrades.
After moving into the new Athletic Facility, the existing gym and locker areas were demolished to make way for a new 2-story middle school building. The combined project required two years to complete and was done while working around the school’s ongoing operations.
Woodward Design+Build played an instrumental role throughout the course of schematic and construction documents to assist the Architect and the Owner with budgeting, scheduling, constructability and code reviews. Our extensive experience with educational facilities helped guide this program to a successful completion. Under the experienced eye of Waggonner & Ball Architects, a state of the art, 110,000 square foot, $9,305,420 educational facility was completed in time for the 2003 fall semester.
