Woodward Design+Build Joint Ventured to construct the 450-room, 26-story, four-star Harrah’s Poydras Street Hotel. It features nearly 6,800 square feet of meeting rooms, workout facilities, a restaurant, and top-of-the-line suite accommodations, all within a building package consistent with the historical needs of New Orleans’ Warehouse District.

A unique feature of this project is the complete restoration of the existing building located at 528 South Peters Street, which now serves as the dining area for the Hotel’s restaurant, Riche, and the 528 Jazz Club. Additionally, Fulton Street was transformed into a pedestrian throughway, and will be home to other restaurants and shops in the future.

As can be expected from a structure this size, the immense foundation required the use of around 700 linear feet of sheet piling and more than 4,000 yards of concrete. More than 250 steel pipe piles were driven at the site, some of which were driven over 200 feet into the earth. The pile driving operation was closely monitored to prevent damage to any adjacent structures. The building structure consists of 27 elevated post tension concrete decks.

The exterior tower portion of the building (floors 3 through 26) utilize glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) cladding integrated with a curtain wall window glazing system. The low-rise portion (floors 1 through 2) are comprised of salvaged brick, granite, wood shutters, doors, and other materials from the selectively demolished structure that originally resided at the project site.
