Located at 1450 Poydras Street in New Orleans, Benson Tower is part of the former New Orleans Centre complex next to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Tom Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Hornets, purchased this 26 story skyscraper along with the New Orleans Centre and the adjoining parking garage.
Benson selected Woodward Design+Build for the renovation, with a scope of work involving a new roof and HVAC systems, renovations to the interior spaces and repairs to the building envelope to create first class office space for the building’s tenants.
Woodward Design Group served as the designers to renovate the core and shell. They also worked with Holly & Smith Architects on the design of the internal buildout for the State offices. Woodward acted as general contractor for the construction.
Benson Tower provides 320,000 square feet of office space for the State of Louisiana. Additional space is leased to other tenants. Benson Tower is a key catalyst for the improvements made to the Poydras corridor, and part of a larger vision focused on development of the area around the Mercedes Benz Superdome into a sports and entertainment district.
Demonstrating Woodward’s expertise in sustainable design and construction, the project has earned LEED Core and Shell Certification from the United States Green Building Council.
In August 2012, WVUE Fox 8 opened their new satellite studio overlooking Champions Square on the 2nd floor of Benson Tower.
