Located in historic Algiers Point, Belleville Elementary School long served as a focal point of the surrounding neighborhood and key element of the community. In recent years, the abandoned building had become an eyesore as it set dormant for many years. In fact, the building was not only in disrepair, but actually in precarious structural condition when the team from Woodward Design+Build first walked through the building.

March 28, 2012 would mark a new day in the community as the grand opening of Belleville Assisted Living welcomed hundreds of people to view the newly rehabilitated and reimagined facility. The original school building now serves as the main building of Belleville Assisted Living. Where the schoolyard once stood, the addition of a newly constructed Building 2 is taking shape to add additional space for senior living. The original kindergarten building was also repurposed to provide additional apartments. A central courtyard is also surrounded by a chapel and multi-purpose building that will provide salon services and community space for numerous activities. Finally, a single story home on the property was moved to another location to serve as the administrative offices for Belleville staff.
