The St. Tammany Parish Economic Development Foundation (STEDF) awarded MECO the Economic Development Expansion Project of the Year for the company’s manufacturing plant development.

The award was presented to the company CEO George Gsell at the annual awards luncheon on February 24, 2014 by STEDF CEO Brenda Bertus. Criteria for the award include job retention, job creation, facility expansion and capital investment.

The project will add 127 new direct jobs and has retained 81 existing jobs. The new facility is a state of the art manufacturing plant encompassing 85,000 square feet of 14 acres in St. Tammany Parish near Abita Springs.

“We are honored to be selected for this award and we are excited about the capabilities of this plant,” Gsell said. “It is designed to be the premier machining and fabrication plant in the gulf south. It is built for efficiency with sustainability in mind. It is a great place to work.”
