A New Lease on Life for Cabra Hall

Loyola University

1 January 2013

Cabra Hall has been a fixture of Loyola’s Broadway Campus since it was acquired from St. Mary’s Dominican College in 1984. The 5-story residence hall is Loyola’s smallest residential facility. Cabra Hall closed in May 2012 to undergo its first major renovation, and will re-open for occupancy for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Cabra Hall, known for its premier location along the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line on Broadway Street, will re-open as Loyola’s largest apartment-style community and will house 163 upperclass students in a combination of single and double rooms.

The following updates await returning students this fall:
• In-suite kitchens that include sink, fridge, and cooktop
• Completely updated, moveable furniture
• Redesigned bathrooms
• Larger, updated windows
• Fresh finishes including paint and flooring in all private and common spaces
• Redesigned lobby and 1st floor communal space, including reception area, study lounge, and fitness room

In all aspects of this ongoing renovation, respect has been given to the facility’s historic significance while bringing modern conveniences with a contemporary feel.
