Poydras Home Celebrates Topping Out Ceremony
25 October 2012
On Thursday, October 25, 2012 Woodward and Poydras Home celebrated the hanging of the final steel beam in a traditional topping out ceremony.
The topping out ceremony held at Poydras Home on October 25, 2012 marked a milestone in the project’s progress since construction began in April 2012. Executive Director and CEO of Poydras Home, John Sanford Rive Jr. led the ceremony. Residents, family, friends and guests enjoyed a reception before the ceremony began. All were invited to sign the final steel beam and attendees watched as the beam, adorned with the branch of a pine tree and the American flag, was hoisted up and placed on the new assisted living building, “Oak House.”
The topping out ceremony has its roots in Ancient Scandinavian culture, using a tree to symbolize growth and celebrate the life of a new building. The ceremony at Poydras Home celebrated the work done so far and looked ahead to when the new building addition will allow Poydras Home to better serve its residents and community. The project is expected to reach completion in the Summer of 2013.
