YMCA at Federal City Awarded to Woodward

Algiers Development District In Partnership with the YMCA of Greater New Orleans Signs Construction Contract with Woodward Design+Build to Build YMCA at Federal City

June 10, 2011- New Orleans, LA

The Algiers Development District is living up to its Vision of Advancing Algiers to be the bestfor residents, schools, businesses and the community by investing in Algiers specifically The Federal City project.

Today the Algiers Development District awarded the contract to build the new YMCA located at Federal City, New Orleans to Woodward Design+Buildsaid ADD Chairman Jeff Arnold.Building the YMCA for Federal City was part of our lease agreement with the Department of the Navy which we signed in 2008.

This will provide the United States Corps Marine Forces Reserve and the general public with a state-of-the-art work-out facility on the Federal City site,said YMCA Board of Trustee Chairman Kelly Longwell, Chief Volunteer Officer of the YMCA of Greater New Orleans.The facility is slated to open for public and Marine use by December 2011.In addition to opening the full-service YMCA in late 2011 or early 2012, the YMCA is in the preliminary stages of developing plans for a licensed Child Care facility that will serve all ages.

This is another great milestone towards our 15 year mission of completing the Federal City project located in Algiers,said Chairman Arnold.When completed the Federal City development is expected to bring in 10,000 jobs to the New Orleans area.

The Algiers Development District of the City of New Orleans is a special taxing district (TIF) created by state legislation. The special taxing district is comprised of all territory within the fifteenth ward (Algiers) of Orleans Parish, State of Louisiana. The district has been designated as a local redevelopment authority for Federal City military base realignment purposes and has been authorized to incur debt, including revenue bonds from revenue sources for its enumerated purposes.
