NEW ORLEANS — After 52 years of operating out of a single building on Camp Street beneath the Pontchartrain Expressway, substance abuse treatment center Bridge House is preparing to branch out with a new location in Central City.

Bridge House CEO Buzzy Gaiennie said the $9 million building at the intersection of Dupre Street and Earhart Boulevard, just across the street from the headquarters of the project’s general contractor, Carl E. Woodward, will be used as a treatment facility for men.

“We’re going to continue to operate from the present location,” Gaiennie said. “We’re going to put the women at the main facility, which is going to increase the capacity by over 45 beds. We’ll have 104 men’s beds and they’ll all be on Earhart.”

Construction will be complete in mid-September and Gaiennie said the center will be operating by October.

“Presently we are all spread out. We don’t have all the clients living in all one building and the counselors are all spread out,” he said. “In the new building everything is going to be in one building so it will be easier to control and it will be much more efficient.”
