The South Market District mixed-use development will be home for New Orleans’ first car sharing operation.

The Domain Companies, which is developing the $200 million mixed-use development downtown, announced that it has reached a deal with Enterprise Rent-A-Car for the car sharing service. Enterprise CarShare will have four vehicles, located in The Park, the first phase of South Market District.

Car sharing allows people to rent a car for a few hours in order to run errands or take short trips. Unlike traditional rental car services, car share operations are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and have a simplified rental and return process. Car sharing has become popular with environmentally conscious consumers in large cities, who don’t need to drive every day.

“Our partnership with Enterprise adds another unique amenity and convenience for our residents and for the entire downtown community,” said Matt Schwartz, co-founder of The Domain Companies, which has offices in New Orleans and New York.
