Mercedes-Benz of South Mississippi
When Woodward Design+Build was hired to design and build the new Ray Brandt Mercedes, the Woodward Design Group was faced with designing a facility that satisfied both the vision of the vehicle manufacturer and the operations of the auto dealer. The design team fulfilled all elements of the Mercedes prototype facility requirements, all while overcoming challenges in construction cost.
The facility was positioned on the site to create the best possible exposure to traffic on the major highway. Inside, Woodward Design Group created an exposed structure interior for the showroom area, minimizing the industrial look and maintaining Mercedes elegance. In addition to the showroom, customer parking, delivery truck access, and new/used car inventory display, Woodward’s designers solved several site-specific problems. Owner Ray Brandt introduced a full service drive thru car wash which was incorporated into the site and building. Disposal of site drainage became a major problem to overcome, since the site had to be raised above the adjacent commercial shopping center. The auto service shop was required to be air conditioned, presenting the issue of how to maintain cooling with all of the in and out movement of service vehicles. On top of that, the design team had to decide what to do with exhaust in an enclosed service shop. Woodward’s architects were able to resolve these issues and more to create a facility that exudes Mercedes style and fits the needs of the dealership owner.
