Marine Corps Support Facility, New Orleans
When the Naval Reserve Forces Command moved to Norfolk, Virginia as part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Round, state and local officials developed a plan with the New Orleans Federal Alliance and HRI/ECC, LLC for a Federal City at the former Navy site in Algiers. Woodward Design+Build was selected for Phase I, which included the construction of a new facility for the Marine Forces Reserve.
The new 4-story facility provides more than 400,000 square feet of space for the Marine Forces Reserve. The building is the largest architectural tilt-up project in the Gulf Coast region and the largest ever for military end use. The choice of tilt-up concrete created both cost and time savings for the project.
